Layer 3 etherchannel
Layer 3 etherchannel
Layer 3 switches or multi-layer switch are devices that switch and route packets in the switch hardware itself
A layer 3 etherchannel is a connection make up of a logical grouping of ports into a virtual interface that is configurable as a routed interface.
We are going to use layer 3 mostly on core and distribution and distribution layer for routing purpose .
That group of ports are routing ports instead of switch ports .In the next graphic you will understand better the difference .
As we did before in the previous exercise this is our actual topology
We are going to provide some explanation of different commands that we are going to use in switch A initially..So it will be better for you to understand
Configuration of Switch A
So we will apply all the previous information on Switch A
Now let's work something similar in Switch C..Very similar but in changes in the ip address
Let's apply these changes..
Now let's check with the command show ip int brief
We see here the fa0/9 and fa0/10 , the port channel 10 we created is up and the loopback is up as well
If you want extra confirmation of ospf relationship use the command show ospf neighbor and show ip route..
That's how we create an extra bandwidth on a routed link using layer 3 etherchanel ..Meanwhile..this exercise is done..
If you understood the explanation and like it,..please share !
